Job Description

QUALIFICATION: 

3 years training as bachelor´s degree program at Universities of Applied Sciences including important content in:
Physiological processes of pregnancy / Practical-theoretical diagnostics & therapy for midwives / Conduction anamnesis discussions / Prenatal care including laboratory diagnostics / Nutrition during pregnancy / Midwifery documentation & communication / Birth physiology / Physiology of the early neonatal phase / Basics of screening / Fundamentals of attachment theory / Breastfeeding counselling 

  • This profession can only be practiced after completing the legally prescribed training
  • Professional activities are based on the legally prescribed training content 
  • Registration in the "Midwives´ Register" is mandatory to practice this profession 

Completed degree or training as Midwife / Obstetric Nurse - Valid professional license to practice in Austria

ACTIVITIES: 
* Care, counselling, and support for pregnant women, families, and new-borns during pregnancy, birth, and the postpartum period
* Conducting antenatal examinations, birth preparation classes, and breastfeeding counselling
* Monitoring the birth process, using modern obstetric procedures, including separate cranial and cardiac scans if necessary
* Collaboration within an interdisciplinary team (doctors, anaesthesiology, operating room, neonatology, maternity ward)
* Documentation in accordance with legal requirements and internal guidelines
* Emergency care, paediatric first aid, pressure ulcer and infection prevention
* Participation in quality and continuing education programs, supervision, and teamwork

A - Knowledge of current obstetric practice, gynaecology & paediatrics B - Knowledge of hygiene guidelines & emergency procedures C - Additional qualifications (e.g., breastfeeding, lactation counselling, hypnobirthing) D - Empathy, strong communication skills, and teamwork ability, patience E - Independent, structured work style, resilience & stress resistance, sense of responsibility F - Willingness to undertake regular continuing education for latest scientific developments G - Willingness to work on-call and weekend shifts (depending on availability) H - Very good written and spoken German & English skills; further language skills advantageous
